Microlitre clinical samples, ceramic powders and slurries are hard to nebulize but easy to vaporise. This electrothermal unit heats 5–50 µL liquids or 0.1–10 mg solids on a graphite or metal filament up to 2600 °C in up to 10 steps, sweeping vapour to the plasma with 0.5–1.5 L/min argon. Throughput is 10–30 samples per hour.
