When only a small amount of soil is available, the Harvard method still gives a usable compaction curve. The 33.3 mm brass mould holds about 62.4 cm³ and is filled with a spring-loaded 12.7 mm tamper set at 9 or 18 kg. Each point needs only around 120 g of soil, and a lever extruder is included.
