TB programmes screening auramine smears, and labs reading autoantibody IFA or malaria slides, need bright fluorescence without mercury lamps. This microscope excites at 450–470 nm, with UV or green optional, through 2–4 filter cube positions and Fluor objectives up to 100× oil. The LED lasts more than 10,000 h and the fluorescence unit draws under 20 W.
