Rubber, polymers, waxes, adhesives and tissue soften or lose volatiles when warmed by grinding. Here the sample is made brittle with −196 °C liquid nitrogen and holds grinding temperature as low as −100 °C under sensor control. Impact or cutting rotors run up to 6,000 rpm, giving 0.1–5 mm product from batches of up to 200 g.
