Elongated particles are judged by whether their length passes between a pair of pins set for each size fraction. This gauge has six pin gaps from 78.7 mm down to 14.7 mm, covering 50–37.5 mm to 10–6.3 mm fractions. Pins are 6 mm hardened steel set to ±0.2 mm on a zinc-plated base.
