Dead cells bind antibodies nonspecifically and survive into fixed samples unless they are marked first. These amine-reactive dyes label dead cells covalently and hold through formaldehyde or methanol. Reconstitute in DMSO, use at about 1:1000 and stain for 15–30 minutes at 2–8 °C. Excitation options span UV, 405, 488 and 633/640 nm.
