Uneven bearing faces give low and scattered compressive results, and grinding avoids the fumes and curing time of capping. The machine takes units up to 400 × 200 × 250 mm under a 250 mm diamond cup wheel turning at 1450 rpm on a 4 kW spindle. With 0.02 mm down-feed and motorised table traverse, faces come out flat within 0.1 mm over 200 mm.
