Film blowing, blow moulding and foaming all depend on how a melt behaves when stretched rather than sheared. This extensional rheometer applies strain rates of 0.001–20 s⁻¹ up to a Hencky strain of about 4, measuring force to 0.1 mN. It mounts on a rotational rheometer or runs as a stand-alone unit.
