Soft clay strength often has to be checked on site where there is no power. This bench tester compresses 38 or 50 mm specimens through a hand-wheel screw jack, with 0.5 kN and 2 kN proving rings to suit the soil. Strain reads on a 25 mm dial at 0.01 mm over 50 mm of platen travel.
