Standards set the vane rotation rate, and holding it by hand is not easy. This apparatus turns the vane with a geared synchronous motor at 6 to 12°/min, using four calibrated springs for about 1 to 100 kPa. A 12.7 mm vane is standard, with a 25.4 mm vane available for softer clays.
