Water getting into an asphalt layer strips binder and weakens the base, so field permeability is now checked on many dense and open-graded mixes. We offer the standard falling-head pavement permeameter, a three-tier field permeameter, a digital automatic model, an infiltration ring kit for pervious pavements and a laboratory permeameter for cores. Mix type, expected flow rate and whether testing is in situ or on cores decide the choice. For pervious surfaces, ASTM C1701 and ASTM C1781 apply, and lab work on asphalt specimens can follow BS EN 12697-19.
