Temperature decides whether asphalt can still be compacted, so it is checked in the truck, behind the paver and on the mat until rolling is finished. We supply stainless dial stem thermometers, digital probe thermometers for mix and mat, infrared guns for paving, a paver-mounted thermal mat scanner and a multi-channel compaction logger. Number of readings, need for a recorded temperature map and probe length decide the choice. Mixture temperature measurement follows BS EN 12697-13, and digital instruments can be checked under ASTM E2877.

How to specify
- Infrared guns read only the surface; use a probe to check the core of a truck load.
- Choose a stem long enough to reach the middle of the load, typically 300 mm or more.
- Paver-mounted scanners suit contracts that pay on thermal uniformity.
