Rutting and local unevenness are visible defects that drive both safety complaints and penalty clauses, so they are measured on new layers and during condition surveys. We supply 3 m aluminium straightedges with measuring wedges, a rolling straightedge, a digital rut depth gauge, a laser transverse profile beam and a combined rut and cross-slope gauge. Number of points, whether you need a full transverse profile and how results are logged decide the choice. Straightedge testing is covered by BS EN 13036-7, while ASTM E1703 and AASHTO R 48 describe rut depth measurement.
