Old landslides and pre-sheared clays move at residual strength, which only unlimited shear displacement can reach. We build the classic Bromhead apparatus, a digital version with load cells, an automatic torsional system with servo normal load, a dual-station unit and a large-diameter apparatus for landslide research. Specimen size, how many tests run at once and whether you need fast or cyclic shearing decide the model. Testing follows ASTM D6467, ASTM D7608 and BS 1377-7.
