Specific gravity of soil solids is needed to work out void ratio, degree of saturation and hydrometer results, so it sits behind many other tests. We offer 50 mL density bottles for fine soils, a 1 L pycnometer jar for coarser material, ASTM 500 mL flask sets, a vacuum de-airing set and a gas pycnometer. Particle size and the accuracy you need decide between bottle, jar and gas methods. Procedures follow ASTM D854, BS 1377-2 and IS 2720 (Part 3).
